Get along Joyce Carter

Sung to “Get Along Little Dogies”

Lyrics by Ken Baake

As I was preparing one morning for teaching.
I spied a colleague just reading a tome.
Her golden locks hanging down on her forehead.
And argument theory was filling her dome.

Chorus after each verse
Whoopee ti yi yo, get along Joyce Carter
It's our misfortune and none of your own.
Whoopee ti yi yo get along Joyce Carter
I reckon Little Rock gonna be your new home.

Daedalus was a brand that you used to ride for.
With software outlaws like Freddy the Kid.
A writing program that changed composition.
A new pedagogy, that’s just what you did.

Of doc exam queries, dissertation defenses
Your fame has spread both far and wide.
A cocked brow, a pause and then comes the question
That sets student brains stampeding inside.

Well it's early in the morning when Joyce goes a flyin'
Checks the gas line, the prop, and the wings.
And off we sail, right into the sunset
Or a tornado, it's all the same thing.

Well the 4Cs ranch, it needed a trail boss
And Joyce was our drover, that’s plain to see.
“Making,” “Disrupting,” and “Innovating”
Professors applauded right out of their seats

A UX lab, at Tech it’s a given
And likewise, we have an online PhD.
But Joyce that old wrangler she started it all.
And made it run so effortlessly.

“Gone to Texas” is what they did once say.
As settlers headed on off to the West.
But Joyce chose the trail back where it came from.
And we are losing one our best.
